To identify and serve diverse populations which include economically disadvantaged, Hispanic, and African American on the campus and district level

Analyze Readistep data and STAAR data of 8th grade students to identify  diverse populations (economically disadvantaged, Hispanic and African American) who score 80 % or higher on Critical Reading or Math and encourage participation in advanced level courses in 9th grade.

Resources and Research tools needed for data gathering:  Readistep data and STAAR testing data. List of students includes those testing 80%  or higher on Critical reading or Math on Readistep  and Advanced Academic Performance on STAAR.

Besides myself, persons responsible for implementation are the counselors at middle and high school, Kathy Wood, Coordinator of Advanced Programs K-12, and Lisa Brittain, Director of College and Career Awareness.

Spring 2012 – Fall 2012. To establish group.
Ongoing with established cohort group until senior year.

Report cards and District common assessments

Follow established cohort group grades 9-12 to track academic performance on district common assessments, STAAR and classroom performance. Additional scheduling into advanced classes may be needed.

  1. Sarah,
The only thing I can say is you may want to narrow your research a bit. The topic seems really broad. What exactly are your trying to identify and how are you planning on serving the diverse populations? Do you want to improve test scores, moral, attendance, participation in what type of advanced programs, and when are these programs offered? I think you should answer some of those questions in the outcome field and use the template more as a plan layout so that you are able to see step by step what you plan to do.
Oh, and you can fix the presentation of your plan by going into the dashboard and on the right side of your screen is an orange pencil and next to it is a grey sheet of paper click on the down arrow and go to layout. Then click on template on the left hand side then the orange customize button and then adjust widths on the left hand side that should fix the size of your template.

  2. Your goal of increasing diverse populations in advanced programs is honorable. I am interested in how your cohort group does after encouraging them to participate in the programs. Do you have a plan to help encourage students to keep going when it seems so difficult?
